sore elbow after playing
« on: Feb 12, 2010, 17:18:52 »
I have played more golf in the last 5 days than i had pretty much all of last season. played 18 on saturday 18 on monday 36 on wednesday and 36 on thursday. towards the end of the first round on thursday my right forearm on the inside at my elbow was starting to get sore. by the time i got off the course fromt the second round it was really sore then last night i started to get a twitch in my fingers on my right hand. picked up a club in a shop today and felt it pretty sore trying to hold anything with my right hand.

anyone had any pain like this after playing alot? if so what did you do for it?

There is such a thing as golfers elbow also, which is (i believe) different to tennis elbow.
Medial Epicondylitis, and tennis elbow is Lateral Epicondylitis.

I'd have said golfers elbow as well.
I suffered with it a few years ago.  It is sore but I think I just played through it and it went away eventually.  Don't take that as sound medical advice though  :omg:

Ditto on all points.

Golfers elbow is not good - it hurts when you lift a pint glass to drink it

Actually, I might have misled you as I think it's tennis elbow that I had.

It's def either golfer's elbow or tennis elbow you've got. I sympathise as it's horrible!

It won't go away on it's own though. I would recommend a support brace whilst you're playing and a tubular bandage whilst you're not, just to support the injury (have a google for tennis elbow support to see what they look
like, it's like a strap that can be pulled tight).

Warm up properly before playing to help prevent injury in the future and you're not going to want to hear this, but it can be the sign of a swing fault causing the following arm to be fully straightened/extended and supporting the full impact of the shot when you hit the ball. (ie a little over the top)

well im with you on the swing fault, think i have been jarring my arms straight at impact and that could be causing the pain. more golf required i think!

Which shafts do you play in your irons?
I had tendon problems in my wrists last year and was told the iron shafts (Project X) were a possible cause.

Whether ther is any truth in it I dont know. Do a few google searches on it see what it throws up.

Some people say PX are harsh feeling but I never felt that. I always thought they felt great.
I did change shafts though. Went to KBS. I kind of justified the outlay with the sore wrists :)
I dont know if that 'cured' the sore wrists or the fact that I done more fishing than golf after the change?

I've  has a sore elbow for a few weeks now and had a lesson today.
Pro said my left arm was folding in the back swing and may have some caused the issue.

Does anyone know if graphite shafts are less harsh on the joint ?

In the meanwhile just ordred a tennis elbow support off amazon  :cry
