One for the Galvin Green users.........
« on: Aug 24, 2010, 17:29:33 »
Whats the better jacket the Atwell or the Ayrton?

The Atwell is 2 layer Gore Tex and the Ayrton is Paclite.
I know the Paclite is thinner but is it windproof and warm?

Paclite is much thinner and lighter, same qualities for wind and waterproofing but unlined so not as warm.

The Pac-lite is definitely the way forward if you are looking for waterproofing only,( and the short-sleeved affairs are magical on the few occasions that its actually warm, but wet.......but as Gary said, the full bhoona two-layered jobbies do provide a degree of insulation if you are prone to howking it round the Links in late January.....

Have you seen any of the Sunice stuff Tam?

I got a Sunice Tornado jacket off Ebay for around £35 and it's great quality, waterproof, wind proof and well insulated.

Saw the Sunice gear but cant find anyone near me that stocks them to try sizes. I've got a slightly bulky build with shortish arms so I need to try for sizes before I buy :(

Tam,

Tkmaxx have had stock of the sunice goretex and non gt range, I'll keep an eye out for you and give you a bell if I find something.

And if I was buying one jacket I'd get the best I could afford.

Then I'd go paclite with more warm layers underneath in the colder weather.

Paclite:

Waterproof definitely
Windproof yes
Warm? No. There is no insulation to speak of, but like others have said, I wear other layers if I have remembered to bring them.

I've got a GG paclite and I wear it all year.

Just lately mine seems to be losing its waterproofing. Is it right you have to spray it with that Nikwax stuff?

Spot on!

Don't use softners as it buggers up the fabric.
