Ok, so I've checked and think I've sussed it. You guys are worried about the theoretical 1 hole NR with a 10 at a par three where if you include the Stableford scoring 2 over par the "NR" would be within 2 shots of the SSS and therefore count to be a factor in the CSS  :banghead:
Therefore my more likely scenario if being 16 over with nothing worse than a treble is still going to be way outside the 2 shot buffer so the last 2 holes score makes no difference even adding them as 2 birdies I'm likely to be +10 and miss the buffer by 8!  :banghead:

PS wrote this before Vince's post which is one site i used to check and leads to the above conclusion

And another thing, while honour and integrity et all were thrown in about not having an NR. Where is the justice in excluding cat 4 players from the css calculations?
Phoned my MS to check some details as none are coming forward here, never got much of a reply and he was a bit hacked off. (he is a buddy and guess who forgot he was in the US when i phoned his moby  :swag:) The weather was nice there  :chuckle:

I'm concerned about not returning a card, I'm not concerned about missing a single score on a card.

Cat 4 scores are included in css calculations.

Hard to believe you would be one quoting myth TP,
From handicapmaster as referenced earlier by Vince,
" How is the Competition Scratch Score calculated?

This is not a straightforward calculation. Broadly speaking, the calculations follow

   1. For Men; Discount all scores returned by category 4 players (handicaps 21 to 28), for Ladies; Discount all scores returned by category 5 players (handicaps 29 to 36)
   2. Calculate the percentage of players who competed in the competition in each of categories 1, 2 and 3 [and 4 for Ladies],
   3. Calculate the percentage of scores returned by the category 1, 2 and 3 [and 4] players which were two over the Standard Scratch Score of the course, or better.
   4. Use the percentages from (2) and (3) to determine the Competition Scratch Score by referring to a table supplied by CONGU for the purpose.

Don't think so...

Look at FAQ 1 in http://www.congu.com/faqs/css.pdf...

Resurrection!

Don't think I ever got to a conclusion on this;

(Barring cat 4s) all competitors should return a card however bad as it affects CSS?

If you ever actually saw the calculations used to determine CSS you would realise that the chance of even two or three NR's significantly affecting CSS is actually pretty negligible....there is so much rounding to "nearest 10%" going on when determinig the "makeup of the field" that in a field of sensible proportions a few NR's will have sod all affect on CSS.
