Stone in bunker
« on: Apr 18, 2011, 11:17:26 »
So I believe a stone in a bunker is a movable obstruction and can be moved. My question is what do you do with the stone and what's the penalty for getting it wrong?

Thanks

Erm...nope.

It has to be a local rule permitting it.

It's also a loose impediment being natural.(that's how i remember it) unless the local rule says it's a moveable obstruction.

Throw it away? ???

this is what prompted the question.

Player A is in bunker and confirms with player B that he can move a stone from the bunker. Player A removes stone from bunker and throws it away. Player B claims that is a breach of the rules and says it is loss of hole in match play.

I'm neither of the players BTW and could find nothing in the book that suggests Player A should have been penalised.

Did Player B state which rule was broken?

I'd have asked to see his rule book and or some more detail on what rule he thought was breached.

Sounds like Matchplay tactics to me. :

Throw the stone at him!

You can do what you want with the stone, as long as you dont throw it into the bunker with enough pace to test the depth of the sand!

Player B sounds desperate if he pulling that one!

Player A could be penalised if he moved the ball while removing the stone or when he threw the stone it rebounded & hit his ball thus moving the ball.  Other than that he'd be fine.

I have no more details. I was chatting with my playing partner about rules on Saturday and he mentioned someone had done that to him in matchplay once.
