at our club, the card needs to be signed, and posted in the score box. no card.. =disqualified.

A friend of mine last year carded a level par scratch round off a 6 handicap and forgot to sign his card.. unlucky, no, he knows the rules.

Followed this up at the club. Apparently, unless you are in contention, or have a 2, they will not even look for your card and just take what is in the computer. Can't be right?

If they aren't checking your scores are signed by another member, then your comps are easily open to abuse.

100. I was miles out of it. Would have thought all cards would be checked though - otherwise what's the point?

This is a game of honesty and integrity (!) so I don't see the problem with taking it off the computer and only checking certain cards.
2011 10.0 > 10.1 > 10.2 > 10.3 > 10.4 > 11.4 (C23)
2012 11.4 > 11.2 > 10.6

You meant 'supposed' honesty and integrity surely.......

Stick any sort of prize up,in any walk of life and someone will take advantage from my experience.Hence cant believe your cards arent checked rop. Doesnt even need to be a cheat - could be a genuine mistake that gets overlooked.

Quite, and part of what keeps people honest is the signing of the card.

"6-6 b. Signing and Returning Score Card
After completion of the round, the competitor should check his score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Committee. He must ensure that the marker or markers have signed the score card, sign the score card himself and return it to the Committee as soon as possible.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 6-6b:
Disqualification. "

The question then is whether the next day is "as soon as possible"...unlikely I would imagine.

Seems strange to not check that all cards have been signed. I know our club does as every comp has a usual bunch DQ'ed for not doing it regardless of the score but would seem a bit much to check every card properly unless in contention.

Absolutely. It's amazing how much higher standards are kept when someone is known to be checking up on them.

Are your cards checked by a club employee or a volunteer? If its a paid employee i can understand the pedants wanting them to check every card but if its voluntry, you shoot a million over and you are using a computerised entry sydtem,Who cares. Isn't the point of using a computer entry system that it eases the workload, not to just use 2 systems. As for a signature, if a cheating Bass  is a cheat they are going to do it whatever the system is.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that our club check the cards that have 2's and are in the hunt for the comp win.
