Are your cards checked by a club employee or a volunteer? If its a paid employee i can understand the pedants wanting them to check every card but if its voluntry, you shoot a million over and you are using a computerised entry sydtem,Who cares. Isn't the point of using a computer entry system that it eases the workload, not to just use 2 systems. As for a signature, if a cheating Bass  is a cheat they are going to do it whatever the system is.

I see your point but the R&A are quite clear that nothing replaces a signed card.  Computerised systems are great/cool/useful, but a signed card is all that matters in a comp.

Likewise I understand but we are speaking about the R+A and Rules that most of the time people are happy to say they should move with the times and not be stuck in the past. Likewise common sense should prevail and if scores are outwith the buffer, does the full letter off the law matter? The OP was about a score that was way outside the buffer and discovered when he was drying his waterproofs the next day, would DQing him for not returning his card alter the end result?
So yes the signed card is what matters but if the score is just a waste of paper and doesn't effect the outcome who cares. If you do want to be that correct perhaps you should wear a blazer and join the dinosaurs at the R+A  :chuckle:
I say this after being the Match Sec at my small club for 5 years in the past (pre computer software for h/c etc) In a midweek comp with 50ish entries. All returned cards were checked for signatures and if the two 9s added to give the correct total but not hole by hole, everything within 2 off the buffer was (just in case)
Now, when we had 150 in an all day 18 Hole Open, I'll happily admit only scores in the buffer were fully checked and the other details may have been overlooked. Shoot me!

So you would prefer it if all cards that the competitor determined were outside the buffer were not returned at all, just bin them?

No, I'm not saying that. Where on earth do you think I said that?
I'm saying all players should sign and return thier cards but if they don't and it is outside the buffer and the end result both ways is they get .1 added to thier h/c and it doesnt effect the results, lets not get our panties in a knot.
We are human and can forget. No need to ban people from future comps just use some common sense, thats all i'm saying.

I agree that a ban for forgetting to hand in your card is harsh, but if there is no penalty for not returning your card, why bother? You get your +0.1 either way. Saves on the paperwork.

As usual you want to twist things round to a stupid situation that doesn't exist, If that's what you want to call common sense you should concider joining the RAC club. I think you would fit right in. I'm done  :suicide:

I don't see how you've taken offense at my post, it wasn't implied or intended.

As for insinuating I'd be at home with rascists, why don't you go f**k yourself?
