club subs diirect debit
« on: Apr 28, 2011, 13:25:15 »
how would one go about trying to cancel the agreement?

im at the point where i just want to have a complete break from the game but cant afford to see £85 leave my account every month and not be playing

i know most clubs would let you cancel it due to redundancy or long term illness but are ther any loopholes i could exploit?

you can cancel DD with your bank at any time. Of course, the club might not let you play there again but ....

A friend of mine from our club who pays via direct debit has decided to take a year out and Live abroad for a yr and asked the club if he could take a yr out. Our club replied no he can't put his membership on hold but they wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to resign so they could get another paying member in. So if you know people on the commitee at your club it may well pay to be honest and up front about it and see what they say.

You may have signed/agreed to a year's subs anyway so they'll chase you for the DD if you cancel it.

It could end up in small claims court potentially and you'll burn your bridges with the club and possibly others if they catch wind of it.

Play the rest of the "subs year" then make a decision then.

Unless you've actually singed an agreement stating you will pay the years subs they wont have any comeback.

Ian, just tell them you cant afford to pay the subs anymore due to family/unforeseen circumstances. And that you'd like to rejoin in the future if there were any spaces at that time. I'm sure they'd be accommodating. Most clubs are struggling for members so its a case of them not burning bridges with you instead of the other way round.

They won't chase you.  Costs outweigh benefits without accounting for bad publicity and the fact they'll never get you to rejoin in the future.

Just worked out that my 2010/2011 subs end at midnight on 30/04/11 so if I hand in a resignation letter tonight and cancel my DD I should be in the clear as I haven't played in a new subs year?

I thought so to.  I am pretty sure I have had to get the club secretary to sign my entry forms

The Opens I have played and entered have all required an active handicap with a cert to prove it. Surely you lose the activeness once you are no longer a member or does it take a year to lapse?
