If you don't say it's a provisional it's now in play. In 4BBB the player making the shot needs to declare it a provisional before he takes a swing, if not it's now in play, OOB or otherwise
I think I understand now. Thinking back, he actually found his first ball and continued to play that one. So because he hadn't called his second a provisional before hitting it, he should then have played through with his second ball despite the fact he found his first. His partner calling it a provisional after he had hit it made no difference - as you all say, his second was in play the moment he hit it.Thanks guys - appreciate your comments, I was festering all evening after this. Just something that really bugged me after some of his other comments.
Hope it did not affect the result
Go put him straight (in a concrete suit)
so was the first ball not OOB after all?
It's at times like these why it's a good idea to carry a R&A Rule book in your bag
Why would that be illegal??? You're not using it as a distance measuring device are you?
Wasn't there a thread about this recently? I seem to recall reading that using a mobile phone with distance measuring capability was illegal but it was some time ago and I'm probably wrong......
