I think i have a new favorite parkland style golf course in the north west.I thought Warrington was a nice course, but Bromborough steps it up another level. At 6300y off the yellows with a par 72, it hits the nice balence of not to long or short for the average club golfer.Firstly i will comment on the greens, a number of the greens had been criminally damaged by chemicals early in the season. If the clubhouse rumours are to be believed it was done by the recently sacked greeenskeeper. That said there was only pockets of damage on maybe 1/2 dozen holes and seem to be recovering nicely, but on the whole the green were very nice, not the quickest in the world but just about right for the club golfer. To the layout of the course was a typical par 72 set up with 4 par 3 and 5's, While the course is relatively flat there is plenty of holes with enough contours to make things interesting. The course is on a large piece of land and pretty much every hole has its own identity.3 of 4 par 3's are crackers with the 4th being my favourite at only 140 yards, it played through a watery copse, although it does not really come into play, playing through it really plays on the mind towards a heavily sloped green from back to front that sits on a angle away from the teeing area, alowing an easy bail out to the front and right from the tee, or a full carry over a waiting bunker to play to heart of the green. The 9th is probably the signature hole @ 365y, a drive over the pond should not present to much trouble but straight is required or the ball will be lost on the ditches and trees either side of it.For the longer hitters a 3 wood is the play as the fairway runs out at around 280y, where the next shot requires a shortish iron played over the ravine into the green. The clubhouse has recently been done up by the looks if it and is very stylish although maybe lacking a little character for a club that is over 100y old. It does it job very nicely. So all in all, if your looking for new parkland course to play, this should tick all the boxes if your in the liverpool or cheshire area.
Only time I've ever been skiing.
Yeah also like grange park, has some fantastic holes especially on the lower side of the course near the pond, the higher part of the course not quite as good.I live about 3 or 4 miles from it. I would be a nice place to join, although can bit a bit up there own arses from my visit and still have a joining fee
Yes I know what you mean about 1 or 2 of the members as I'm a member there. The joining fee is a pain to be honest but I can't see them stopping it anytime soon as their only ever seems to be about 20 spaces a yr going and they always get snapped up!
Did not realise you were based in the NW. You live in St Helens? Will have to meet for game sometime if you fancy it?
I live 10 mins from Grange! Yeah sounds good!!
I only live 5 miles from Grange Park but hate the place, never had a good round yet, ah that might be why I dint like it.My Pro is from Bromborough and has been threatening to take me for the last 5 years, might have to twist his arm.
