Standing Snow

Played a friendly game this am; wanted to check a couple of rulings related to snow!

Had a few flurries of snow y'day in Surrey and clearly greenkeepers had "swept" snow off greens leaving small piles around the greens (no more than couple of inches high)

2 queries

1. Ball comes to rest on small pile of snow beside green - we decided it should be treated as "standing water" - albeit frozen water...was that right?

2. Less sure of .... where ball came to rest just off green but with small pile of snow between it and the green surface; can you treat snow as loose impediment and brush it away?

Snow and ice are casual water or loose impediments at the discretion of the player.

Can someone please state what you can do about the chunks of ice inconsiderate bastards other golfers chip off their soft spikes right next to the hole?

You are free to remove them like you would any other Loose Impediment on the green.
