I have piled on the pounds recently and want to get fitter but am finding it very hard to find any golf fitness specialists around London...I have gym membership near work but they don't have any trainers who specialise in golf....I am thinking as I do a very limited amount of stuff other than play golf once a week (if lucky) and go to do the odd spinning class I might as well try and focus on golf fitness rather than do boring general stuff - I find general gym work tedious at best but if I knew it was directly benefitting my game I might have stronger will power Anyone have any thoughts?

Personally speaking I wouldn't worry too much about golf specific unless you are very fit already. If you do Pilates you'll see the benefits for golf, and in general every day life. Also doing some HIT/cardio will help shift the weight. Although the pilates i went to last year was pretty intense as it is!
I was told not to do pilates by the golf fitness guy. His analysis of my problems showed that it was causing more problems! So I would say get screened etc.
Not like he would have a vested interest Core strength and flexibility will help in life or golf and TPI stuff looks like pilates to me.
one difference though, you were/are a cripple
Was told initially by Leeds Rhinos physio as well as TPI guy. I didn't have the strength in the right areas to do Pilates.
They were talking pish!
