Formby Hall

In the process of building a new range/pro shop. Nice modern facilities, clubhouse and changing rooms. Just finished the onsite hotel.

Parkland course which is 6713 off the whites nad 6409 off the yellows. Course is generally in good condition with very few undulations.
The challenge is to avoid the water which is evident on 16 of the 18 holes. They use pick and place from November through to the end of Feb so it is advisable to avoid during the winter. During the summer it is a nice course but not too demanding so good for all levels of golfer.

Rating 6.5/10

Just spend two days playing golf here

echo some of what True Blue has said, Yes plenty of water and a good deal of it in play.

I actually found it a really good test of golf with a good variety of holes which tested your brain as well as your golf swing.

On both days although the rough was quite short it was very thick and you really had to take your medicine and just get the ball in play a 100y further down if your ball settled down.

Greens were a nice pace, although i think the greenkeepers where in evil mood all pins where placed away over bunkers and at the front which made them difficult to get close to as it was difficult to get a lot of check on the ball and probably my only critism that the aprons where heavily watered making the bump and run approach very difficult to judge my trying to get close to a front pin.

Given the course is 10-11 years old, the front 9 is extremy well beded in the back 9 not so well yet but still in very good condition.

The "resort" itself looks to be ideally placed for the golf tourists only being 10 mins from the big 4 (Birkdale, Hillside,S&A and formby), with the par 3 course apparently based on members fav holes it should add further to the experience.

I would probably rate it higher than true blue and would go towards a 7.5/10
