Gilroys - Review - Discuss
« on: Apr 16, 2008, 08:34:37 »

Went there last night and after skidding past the entrance and doing a U'ey I parked up.

Nice big entrance with lots of putters along the walls.

Mike's room next door has a large net section with lots of shafted up irons along the walls, bags full of clubs etc.

Jason's room is next door with a huge screen, cameras, SAM system, putting green (Stimp 17! I think he said!) and shed loads more putters.

Impressive layout

Putting showed an open face at impact, worked on changing posture, alignment, weight balance, grip and he bent my Mills 1 degree shut. So much to look at and analyse. Thought I'd need my putter chopping from 34" but new address means thats doubtful.

Results were better than before.

Not got my eye on a new putter yet  ;)

Overall. Nice friendly environment to learn/practice in and lots of toys...  :thumbup1:
I had a follow up session with Jason Gilroy recently at his fitting studio which I hadn't been to before.

He has now joined up with a guy called Mike Clark who I believe some may know and interestingly enough he had a tour bag in the Studio belonging to David Griffiths who again is known.

Mike wasn't there when I went but I believe now they combined can do a complete equipment check-up with supposedly Vega, Epon, Scratch and Nak stuff using a launh monitor. Interestingly enough they have the Nak driver and 3 wood interchangeable shaft technology.

I had previously bought a 2 session package about a year ago so my aim was to look at my current putters and technique which I have not been doing much about. Anyway Jason was fantastic again in being chatty, no pressure approach, etc and he looked at the current set up of both putters and technique. Analysed what I was doing and recommended some pointers and adjusted my putters, etc. I even asked him whether I should be looking at any different types/new putters (he is now the main distributor of Whitlam so has every one of those under the sun. He carries and reasonable stock of Yes and Seemore as well.

I ended up getting my 2 putters adjusted and balance Certified weighted and re gripped as well as the 2+ hours I was there for the stupidly low price of £95     He was in no rush and he was telling me he had had that pillock Hugh Grant in recently for about 3 hours.

I have a follow up set of notes and SAM Golf putting analysis to follow and he compared it to my previous session.

Only minor downside and he pointed out and apologised for before the session started was that the 6 month old putting green was rolling incredibly quickly and was due for overhauling or replacement as the installer had not loaded it with enough sand when he had it installed!!

All in all a great ridiculously good value experience and his studio is only about 5-10 mins from Gatwick.

Hugh Grant takes his golf very seriously - plays off 10 or 12 I believe.

He was in a group a couple behind when I played Archerfield last year - getting set for that Celebrity Ryder Cup thing!

Hmm, Gilroys has no relation to Knightsbridge Golf School, does it?
