Callaway Tour iX Golf Balls - Discuss
« on: May 29, 2008, 10:16:22 »
This is Callaways new 4 peice ball. Anyone used them or hit them? How do they compare with the HX Tour 56?

It looks like these are the replacement for the HX Tour 56 which I find is the best ball for me.

Can still buy the HX Tour 56 but can get these for a similar price so I am tempted to try them.

Both Tour and Tour 56 were on special offers (£25) at several places (certainly AG) a while back.

Normally means being phased out. Would doubt Callaway would keep 4 'premium' balls on the go.

I used the iX ball at St Anne's. Spookyfish was using them and he gave one to me to try out. I am a HX Tour 56 user as well. The difference for me was marked. Couldn't believe the difference off the face of the driver and the length it was getting over the HX Tour. Lot less spinny.

Felt a lot nicer on putts as well. Going to be in the bad once a I have used up all the HX I have in the cellar.

Thanks for the info.

One question, it is less spinny around the green?

I have not had a problem with the HX Tour 56 being too spinny off the driver and irons.

It looks like I will pick up 3 and see what they are like

Nope - it's a great ball - better than the PRO V1 in my opinion

Three weeks ago I brought 3 Callaway Tour iX golf ball and played with the balls while still using the HX Tour 56's.

I found no real difference between the 2 balls. Only noticable difference was off the putter where the iX is the first ball I have actually felt a little soft.

No difference in ball flights or spin from woods to wedges.

As a result of this, I have just brought four dozen of the HX Tour 56's due to them being slight cheaper.

How so? Less Spinny you say.

How about wedges and putting?

I thought:

Tour i replaces HX tour 56,

Tour ix replaces HX tour.

The Tour ix has a harder cover for increased distance according to the Callaway website.

Either way I will be using Tour i balls after my HX Tours run out.

How about wedges and putting?

Better through the wind, stayed online a lot more - tried and tested both balls in the same round at St. Annes Old Links.

Nice feel/sound of the club face, felt good off the wedges. Putting was a similar feel.

Is that enough info for you  :raspberry: Buy some instead of buying clubs that you don't need  :chuckle:

I am surprised that the ix has the harder cover. When I hit a Tour IX with my wedge it cut the ball up much more than I have ever done when hitting an HX Tour 56. The Tour IX did feel softer when putting, almost too soft which is unusual for me.

I bought a dozen iX as they were the ProvX equivalent last week with some vouchers and used a couple at the Scottish Summer Meet.

I'm not overly impressed with them, certainly didn't seem as hard as the ProX off the driver or putter face. Also not as long as the ProX either.

I'll not be buying anymore of these once these have been destroyed after a couple of wedge shots with my Mac Daddys

I found that they did go further, only marginally but enough for 1 club length change. They did cut up but so are all the balls that I have used this year esp the TP balls I won at Cardrona - torn to shreds after one hole!

I only use 1 ball (presuming I don't lose them) a round now because I shredding them - be it Pro V or Callaway's

I had a bash with a sleeve of the ix a month back.

Thought they were pretty good and actually quite long for a 'spinny' premium ball, especially of my irons (I wasn't coming up short quite so often... :eyebrow:).
Managed to lose third one on the last hole so haven't hit one for a while but wouldn't object to using them again.

Have always liked their softer HX balls and reckon this new one is good enough to maintain the Cally Black reputation and it may find a few new friends.
I reckon I prefer it to the TP Black LDP I used for the first time on Friday.

I used the "iX" for a while but immediately I tried the newer "i" I found i much preferred it (the "i" that is)...sorry about all the "i"'s.

The "i" is a softer feeling ball than the iX and I'm not sure that there is a huge difference in distance. Still neither is as soft as the Wilston Px3 SoftSpin and I'm still undecided as to what ball to continue playing with. Perhaps when I get my new wedges I'll make a decision based on greenside spin and control.
