Miura Wedges - Discuss
« on: Nov 25, 2007, 02:53:22 »
I recently shafted up my miura wedges 52 & 58 with black gold s300 shafts (matching my CB201 irons)

Basic wedge specs:

Loft 50 52 54 56 58 60
Lie 63.563.563.563.563.563.5
Bounce 5 68987
(full details from Miura Website )

First thing everyone has commented on when they see them, and i agree, is that they look lovely.

In terms of performance, i find they sit behind the ball lovely and inspire confidence which is key with wedges. One of my goals for next year is to improving my stats on getting down in 2 from wedge distance. So far the Challenge Series at World of Golf these haven't let me down.

In term of spin, i have only had the chance to use at the range, but they are definitely putting more stop, and backspin on the ball on full shots than my Mizuno MP-T's, which i thought were really good until i hit the Miura's.

Also what i like is the feel on the full shots but also importantly, the touch shots. Admittedly the shaft plays a big factor in the feel, but the sound of the ball off the face and the sensation through my hands are both very pleasant. Definitely something i can get used to.

They aren't cheap, but with the relatively low bounce of even the 56, i may switch to a 3 wedge set up if i continue to enjoy these.

Out of 10
Performance: 9
Quality: 10
Looks: 9
Price: 6
Overall: 8.5

Time you changed your Sig then!

I've  used these for about a year now and found the pretty good - though I've never been one to spin wedges much!

Don't quite 'match' the CB201s, but pretty close  (PX 5.5s). I think I'd benefit from a bit of grinding on the 58 (and there's plenty of meat to allow it) but that's the sand wedge, so slightly reluctant to change.

Just a follow up to these having given them more use.

Back to back they now make my Mizunos feel clunky in comparison.
They also spin more on full shots from what i can tell.
But  its the less than full shots that really make these stand out over the mizunos.
They feel very precise as i guess a muscleback should. Cliche time - but they feel surgical!! :D

I think i'm going to have to invest in some more! :)

Great choice mate

There are wedges out there that will actually spin more than the Miuras but the Miuras are soooooo consistent. I did some testing a while back on a brand new Miura 60 and a 2 year old Miura 60 and they both spun the ball the same on a 55 yard shot - I couldn't believe it.

I will try and hunt the trackman stats out

Wow - that's amazing. I'd worried about using them too much before the season starts, but i guess i shouldn't! :D And if you work out the cost over 2 years it makes these wedges a bargain!! :)

It's also  pretty much what Norrie, the guy who fitted me said. (i obviously wrote this before my fitting) He still had his old Miura wedges with the raw faces.
I'd wondered about that photo above with "rust face" next to the wedge photo - so its all clear now. :)

But as with my fitting, its always good to have another class a clubfitters opinion - especially when its good news
So ta again. :)

I'm going to have to clear out all my spares and just go Miura!! :D

How do they compare price wise to, say, CB201's ? Cheaper? More expensive?

You could consider it an investment Fieldsy?

Maybe talk to the bank manager? :thumbup1:

Other priorities at the moment. Off to see Niceshot sometime in the New Year for a Trackman session - I'm sure he'll alleviate me (with very little persuasion) of some my hard-earned. Wedges can wait for now.......unless.....no.....really should resist......haven't seen or tried them yet........maybe Niceshot has some at the studio......LOL

Cool.

Enjoy your fitting with Niceshot and don't forget to post your numbers.

How many wedges do you play at the moment Fieldsy?

I ask because a 4 wedge set up could become very costly with Miura!!

I love the look of these wedges! However I'm tight and would still baulk at paying out £150 per club! I was looking to buy some new wedges though and considered the MPTs, but you might have put me off them now.

Don't forget that Ian is comparing the MP-Ts with a club that costs twice as much, so it wouldn't be surprising if there was some performance difference!

The MP-Ts seem to divide popular opinion, with many people really liking them (including myself) and many people not getting on with them at all.  They definitely aren't the 'spinniest' wedges around (possibly due to the fact that they're quite light?), so if that's what you're looking for then you may want to try other options.  I do however find that they provide good feel and feedback, are very consistant and sit nicely behind the ball.  Basically they do the job for me.

I'd try a few options out and see what suits you best as, like putters, wedges seem to be a very personal choice.
