My Club's Committee OK'ed the use of GPS in competitions at last month's meeting :)

Excellent.

Excellent.

It was the compelling argument you put forward.  :thumbup1:

Don't worry, there's plenty of innovations for you to protest about still:

Electricity
The wheel
The eradication of smallpox

I am reliably informed that there may be a vacancy on the Flat Earth Committee. I think you would fit in well.  :D

The Luddites were an early form of trade union and campaigned against technology that was putting people out of work.

Not sure when it became a derogatory term for people who don't share your opinions on technology, or why wishing to see a skilful aspect of golf retain some importance means you're automatically against all technological advancement.

That assumption is as safe as its opposite, that the pro lobby are a bunch of geeks with neither the learning capacity to develop a skill nor the mental ability to perform a few simple calculations on the course.

Luddite has the following definition (other than the basic reference to the historic facts): "One who opposes technical or technological change".

That seems about right for the purpose of my post?

The argument about whether they should be allowed is over. The governing bodies have allowed the devices. Clubs can decide to allow them or not internally - that's their prerogative.

Not sure how it's a skill when you are standing 10 yards away from a 150 yard marker, or next to a point that is clearly marked on a strokesaver  Or are reading and pacing now essential skills of golf?

Maybe we should have a 3/4 eye patch for all golfers with 20-20 vision so as not to discriminate against those who have less than perfect vision.

The geeks have already inherited the earth, it's too late - you lost. :)

Sorry TP, I won't be taking up your invitation to a fight that quoting me out of context indicates you're after.  Some other time maybe.   :chuckle:

I like GPS in SatNav especially when it tells me there's a speed camera in the vicinity.

I don't like it in golf    so the worst I can be accused of is being against the application of that technology in that field.

That doesn't fit the definition of Ludditism, so I'm challenging you all to find a better insult.  This one's not fit for purpose.
