As a high handicapper I have to sit on my own in the bar.

No Andrew, that's because you smell.   :yuck:

Does it also have a big sign on the clubhouse saying 'High Handicappers Not Welcome' or do they only have to pay 3/4 of the subs?

;)

No, they have a big sign saying "Check your sombrero and six shooters at the door."

It's a bit of a git for me to already be screwed out of 6 shots as it is. However it does mean I go in to it knowing the odds are not in my favour so kind of takes the pressure off me a bit. Also give me impetus to try and get to playing off something below 20.

Last year I was aware that 'full handicap' was the rule so I went to the first tee in the first round of our matchplay Cup only to find there was a limit of 18.  Lost five strokes before teeing off.  I was pretty angry, but held him off until the 18th.  It was still a fun round, and walked away the moral victor ;)

Surely they should pay more as they use more of the course and have more goes at hitting the ball?!?!?!  ;)

These "handicap maximum limits" are just pure b******s imposed by some scared low handicappers acolytes and designed to protect the so called better golfer.

There are Congu recommended handicap allowances for matchplay and other comps for a reason.... because (within the limitations of the handicap system that we currently use) the handicap system by and large works well in providing a level playing field for golfers of differring abilities.

If a golf club uses the correct procedure to allocate a players first handicap and pays close attention to that players scores in his early competitions (just to ensure as much as possible that they havent manufactured for themselves an artificially high starting handicap) then there should be no need whatsoever to impose handicap limits/restrictions on players.

My own club restricts a player from winning either of his first two comps after gaining his initial handicap which in many ways, whilst well intentioned, still sits uneasily with me....but it is done to try to combat those who have manufactured a high starting handicap for themselves.

Personally I'd tell the committee to shove it if they tried to impose any such restrictions at my club and I'd actively encourage high handicappers to boycott such comps whilst finding ways of introducing comps that only players over 18 handicap can compete in. There are far more 18+ 'cappers at my club than below 18 cappers and I'm sure there would be a drastic rethink if the comp income dropped because the 18+ guys were boycotting the maihn club comps.

Ferkin low handicappers are a bit like corrupt governments....doing their absolute best to remain in their lofty positions where they have every advantage provided to them to get their names on the honours boards.

Either play everything off scratch or use the handicap system properly.

Just read an interesting article on the CONGU website regarding matchplay handicaps. I think it will be something I will have to bring up with the club.

Even the medal I played on Sunday which was a qualifier to get into a knockout stage had a max handicap of 20. Even though I played badly to have gone through I would have needed to shoot 2 under my handicap.
