I think this is a never ending agument that splits those (of us) who read the rule book with common sense as the overriding constant and those who view the book as a cut and dried "if in doubt, take the option that punishes". Just MHO, but I find mant golfers are looking at ways to punish than simple resolutions to rules dilemmas.
TP - I recall you advising me to hit a provisional a few times last Thursday. Is it too late to amend the result?
If you take the rules to their ultimate conclusion, maybe we should also stop looking for our playing partner's balls, as finding them and indicating their position directly influences the way in which they play the hole and their score. As the position of hazards is specifically mentioned as not 'giving advice' to remove all ambiguety (sp.) maybe in the future I should, when a playing partner hits it into the middle of nowhere I should just say "The rough is really deep over there!" and leave it at that.
