I have been fitted twice for irons. The first time was when I was off a 21 hcp, my requirement at the time was for a forged club. We tried everything, but the Titleist ZBs came out the best. The fitting was done on the driving range waith trackman. The irons helped bring my hcp down to 16.

The second occasion was a few months ago when I was off 15, the fitting was done indoors and using a completely different system to trackman. I ended up with a set of vega CMs, since then my hcp has come down to 12 in the space of a couple of months.

In this time, my swing has pretty remained the same, I have had a couple of lessons, but remain with the same faults as I do not invest enough time in practising what I have been taught.

The conclusion I can draw from all of this is no matter what your hcp is, getting fitted will help your game, whether it is a real effect or whether it's a placebo, but if you believe you have been fitted with a club that suits you best, chances are you will have more confidence standing over the ball and striking it well.

I don't think anyone here is arguing otherwise.
Again, nobody here is arguing otherwise.

I've done lots inside and one outside.

Inside the figures are always better for me hitting off a mat especially with irons.

Outside mishists become more apparent  but I did hit with my own balls rather than practice balls which is definitley advisable.

This isn't true if the TM is set up correctly, if it's not set up right then with the higher ball speeds associated with drivers the TM can't measure the spin rate and estimates it. The spin rate estimate algorithm for drivers isn't very good TBH.

I have worked with long driver guys in the the studio and after changing the set we could measure the spin rate at ball speeds of 190mph.

I've actually found the TM to be more prone to error outdoors with respect to clubhead data.

Also outdoor data ball is only any good if done with a proper ball, ideally the ball you normally use

Good point Mark.

What's your own view on some of the more "negative" views towards the club fitting process with TM/some fitters and their possible approach here? Am genuinley interested in your thoughts please  :)

Unfortunately if buying clubs on ebay was a surefire way to better golf, most of this board including me would be off +5 handicap minimum  ;)
