I was laughing at Monty dumping a ball on the 8th to avoid winning in the 90's.

Indeed.  If players with a chance of winning the main tournament are going to deliberately not win the par 3 comp then the 'curse' will always be there.  Personally I'm encouraged that Donald's short game is obviously in very good shape.
