Early morning golf
« on: May 30, 2012, 08:51:26 »
Have been wondering recently how to get back into the game . Having two children under 3 is really time consuming & I don't feel it's fair to my good lady to just dump them on her at the weekend and bu88er off playing golf, so haven't really played much in the last 3 years. Having got my handicap down to 5.8 just before little one number 1 arrived, I feel I now need to start working on my game again.
So, this morning I hit the course at just gone 5am, had a quick 9 holes, back home for a shower before setting off to work at 7:15.
It was great, course to myself (not surprising really!!), chance to hit a couple of balls on each hole & best of all the rest of the family still soundly asleep.
Does anyone else play first thing in a morning?

I play occassionally if it's a nice morning in the summer & I'm off work.

I'd probably go more regularly if I didn't have to drop the wife off at work.

I love playing at that time of day. Only slight issue at my place is if you want to play 18 then the last third of the round is played slowly waiting for the greens staff to do their work.

Not a problem if the suns shining though  :)

I used to when I lived in Cambridge, but my current club doesn't let you out before a first designated tee time (got moaned at by the greenkeeper for sneaking out early once).

A few years ago I used to get out at the crack of sparrows....on my own I could often get 18 in teeing off at 5.30am and then continuing my journey on to work to be in by 9ish.

Only issue was that whatever time I started the greenkeepers allways seemed to be half a hole ahead of me and I'd often have to wait for them to finish raking bunkers, sweeping greens, mowing fairways etc as they have priority. I'd have been perfectly happy for them to stop work and let me play through and accept that I might find myself on a less than perfectly manicured green or in a bunker that had a few footprints from the lazy twilight golfers....but no....they seemed determined to do their level best to present me with a perfectly manicured course!!!

Lovely time to play though as a single.

I love early morning golf. Usually get to see a bit of the wildlife as well.  normally the wind is flat calm as well.
I just wish I could drag myself out of bed more often to do it.

Glad I'm not the only nutter then  :chuckle:
It was great though, as you say, just me & the bunnies! No wind, no hold ups - all I need now is to be able to hit the ball again! The golf was like a car crash! Oh well, just have to try again tomorrow  :raspberry:

I've played once so far this year and it is mainly because I begrudge the time away from the kids who I don't see during the week.

I used to play early doors but even that now seems too much.
