Getting Old!
« on: Jul 10, 2013, 21:39:09 »
Had physio appointment yesterday to get checked over for the pain in my shoulder & arm.

Nothing too serious thank goodness!

Given me excercises to strengthen tendons in right arm which has been really painful for months - wish I'd got it checked earlier  :picard:

Has recomended that I ice arm the after excercises - any of you use anything in particualr for freezing or bag of frozen peas do the trick?

Also told me to look at posture for muscle pain/tightness in neck & shoulder.

I got a kit from Lidl thta is basically a fabric holder with some velcro straps and one gel pack that you heat in boiling water and a cooler pack that you put in the freezer - stays liquidish so that you can mould it to the surface. Works a treat if you ignore the discomfort of freezing yourself.....

Easiest solution is a bag of ice cubes that you can continually take in/out of the freezer.

Gel packs are best as they mould to suit and keep their temperature longer. Usually about £5 and just leave it in the freezer for when you need it.

Put some kind of fabric between that and skin to avoid ice burns though, something like a tea towel

Thread necromancy!

Shoulder is much better as long as I continue to do my exercises.

Now it appears I have Plantar Fasciitis - had the pain for a few weeks but was hoping it would go away.

Need to go to the docs to get confirmed but from what I've read it's textbook  :picard:

the use of ice has been discounted as poor advice now. Strangely by the man who first introduced it.

Golfers heel, me too.

Snap!

Only started since I started wearing Nike street-style and Adizeros.

I'm hobbling at the end of a round but only affects my right foot.

I get it in the left.
Can ease it by stretching.
Just stand on a step/ stair on the ball of the foot and stretch down.
I've down this during the round by standing on the wheel of my trolley too.
That's why I've invested in new shoes with a raised instep.
I did try insoles but they kept slipping and giving me blisters.

The heel thing is a biyatch - I've had that for a long time.  Marry that with some achilles tendon issues and I stand on the edge of a step, stretching, quite a lot these days.
