No one seems to have brought this up that an English 17yr Old, Matt Fitzpatrick, won the US Amateur title yesterday...ok so I know he is not Scottish  but a Brit winning this is worth a mention

Amazing how little coverage this gets in the UK compared to the U.S. When Richie won it hardly anyone over here knew about it outside of close golfing circles.

You win the U.S Am and you're almost a household name in the U.S.

Same can be said for British Am, very little song and dance made about it. Shame really.

One hundred years after British superstars Harry Vardon and Ted Ray stopped at The Country Club on their unsuccessful victory tour, Matt Fitzpatrick finished the job.
 
Fitzpatrick won the U.S. Amateur on Sunday, beating Australian Oliver Goss 4 and 3 in the 36-hole final Sunday to become the event's first English champion since 1911. The 18-year-old soon-to-be Northwestern freshman is the first foreigner to win any major USGA event at The Country Club, a streak that grew into a legend when Francis Ouimet beat Vardon and Ray here in the 1913 U.S. Open.


Fitzpatrick, who was the low amateur last month in the British Open, got a gold medal for his victory along with exemptions into the 2014 U.S. and British Opens — where he will be paired with defending champions Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose — and a likely invitation to the Masters. His name will be inscribed on the Havemeyer Trophy alongside five-time winner Bobby Jones, three-time winner Tiger Woods and two-time winners Jack Nicklaus and Ouimet.
 
It's the first time Englishmen have won the U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in the same calendar year.

I was trying to follow the final last night but it was not easy.  Obviously a huge talent so lets hope this early promise translates to a long successful career at the top of golf (if that is what he wants) but as we all know there are so many things that can wrong for him in the next few years, many of which will be out of his control.  Lets also help he has not peaked too early and is more Tiger Woods than Ritchie Ramsay in achievements, if not personality!
