Ok - I can see the only answer is for every golf ball to have a unique serial number and every golfer forced to make a note of it before he puts the ball in play

that'll solve any issues

I think the other two misread, you are referring to an unmarked ball, not one marked with an "F"

Very interesting read and just to really confuse things. If you mark your ball with the same thing every time and have lost a ball in the 4 or 5 weeks preceding you hunting for your ball in the same area how can you be sure you didn't hit the one you lost previously.

FWIW I draw a big smiley face on both sides of the logo and as my drawing is rubbish they are generally unique.  :chuckle:

what we need is a smart-ball with a chip which you can upload with a unique serial number at the start of each round. Then you could link it to Game Golf and monitor how various balls perform. If anyone else can figure this out I want royalties!

That could be expensive on current form  :picard:

not unique.....but the balls are also numbered for a reason.....Christ, you'd be desperately unlucky to play with a guy ( or girl )  who mistakes his/her  ball for yours because :-
1. He/she  uses the same Brand
2. He/she has the same coloured Sharpie
3. He/she puts the dots on their ball in exactly the same place
4. He/she  uses the same number of ball as in #1 above..... :roulette:

...and if they claim that they've hit your ball as they are absolutely convinced its theirs because they claim to meet  all of the above.....boot them in the gonads as they're likely cheating ba.stards..... :ninja:

Happened to me in the second round of our Club Championships several years ago. Hit a ball down the 7th, drifted left into light fluffy rough and sat down. Walked on from the tee, "found" "my" ball where I expect it to be, identified it.... Titleist No 3, two red dots either side of the number, saw the beginnings of NXT and thought that was my ball identified...(i.e it wasn't a ProV or other ball from the Titleist range). It was only after my third shot when I marked my ball on the green that I realised it was just a plain old NXT, not the NXT Tour I was playing.

I thought the smiley was enough to suggest I wasn't being entirely serious but I guess not  :p

In fairness you can pretty much assume 99% of the time I'm not being serious  :D
