Ben does this every 2 days just to be on the safe side.

Ben is like one of those "I ate like The Rock for 30 days" guys  except it's more than The Rock and everyday and forever.

Had my induction tonight and an initial workout devised.

b*****d started me off by rowing 500m as a warm up.

A WARM UP?????? Damned near killed me. (now I know that to some of the rowers on here that is a piss all distance... but I've never "rowed" before and I'm sure he had the machine set on an "uphill" setting.

Rowing is awesome nick although most trainers know f**k all about it. They always run the machine on 10 and do not give any instruction on form.

Wouldn't have advised you starting your induction when they knew nothing about your capabilities with a 500m thrash. It will get easier.

Was that a PT session or just an induction?
I carry clubs but cant use any of them

Wasn't a thrash....I took it easy... very easy!!!

After the warm up row he took me through a variety of machines to work various muscles..leg, shoulder and chest press and back extensions and something called cable swings. Little serious weight but at the end of the various sets/reps I could feel Id done some work, even though I coped reasonably comfortably.

Also advised me to get booked in to either a pilates of yoga class. The plan is either yoga or plates one night a week and then a couple of evenings "working out"... though I use the phrase very loosely given the pain on the faces of some of the other folks in the gym.

Nick,

I also tried the pilates at the gym but even the beginners class was too much for me, not just the stretches but the terminology and speed to change from one position to another left me literally sitting around watching!  However talking to the instructor afterwards it was obvious that I needed a few personal sessions (which I have never got round too) but I would highly recommend going down this route.  Without proper instruction you will do yourself more harm than good.  Careful with pilates and yoga.  However just doing some 'normal' stretches and ensuring I do lots of low weight reps have helped me immensely in recent months.  Less pain, more distance and I can now stretch in ways I couldn't, particularly my hamstrings.

Your induction session doesn't sound the best.  Using the rowing machine to warm up someone who has not been for year is strange in the least.

I made a concerted effort after coming back from the State in the summer (American portions!)

I had a dry September which created a virtuous circle....no booze = no snacking = better eating = more energy = more gym/exercise

I dropped 1 stone 7 lbs in a little over 30 days....been very slack recently (Xmas parties etc) and have gained 9lbs back...so committed to cut back again from this am

When I was losing weight I was never hungry....made a lot of food from Joe Wick's books (Body Coach) - all tasty

According to some fancy electronic body scanner device where they fry my innards with a low electric current and measure how much muscle/fat/water etc I've got sloshing around inside of me my body physique is as indicated by the green target to the left and below "solid build" (or if you are feeling harsh....right and below "obese").

hopefully over the coming months the target will move "south" ending up somewhere between "standard" and "standard muscular".
