Any recommendations on machine to buy for home.  I don't belong to gym and therefore idea of home machine appeals

when you get here for 2Km, we'll race!!

That's a great 2km time. Is that your PB?

That gives you an impressive VO2max figure according the concept calculator

I can break the 2min/500m speed for 500m & 1km easily but the 2km has always eluded me by a couple of seconds.

It is as euros says a great exercise. A couple of years ago when I had access to rower, I would row for 30 minutes at around 22-23 strokes per minute. It had a great rhythmical motion to it that meant the time flew by.

For most rowing training (apart from HIIT) I would aim at a low stroke rate 22-25spm. This is the rate the pro's train at.

There is only one option for rowing machines, Concept 2. There are others in the market but the concept 2 machines are the standard for a reason, doubt you will find any rowing team using anything else. I have an E but in reality should have got a D although they are exactly the same except the ride height of the E is higher (to make it easier for fat and old people to get on). I wouldn't get anything but a D, try and get a PM4 or PM5 as a console.

That is my best for 2Km but unfortunately its a while back (looking at pics 2011!!) so nowhere near that level now.

Best for 5km was 17m41s and 36m57s for 10Km. I have a pic that I did 15352m in an hour although I thought I did do more.

I managed my first 10Km since 2011 in aus and was a very slow 39m37!!
Needs work!

Thanks Euros.  V tempted to pick on up and I suspected Concept2 was only way to go.  Assume if I'm only using it for light use it doesn't really matter which monitor I get

Tbh there isn't that much difference between them, they all show you the info you need when rowing. The newer monitors are just more connective.

On mine i also have a cbreeze to aid with my cooling as I don't have air con like a gym. I also have a bracket and connector for my ipad but that is a frivotaly. You can connect your laptop to use programs like row pro but i didn't find they offered me anything extra, all i really need is my pace and time, with those you can track where u are.

Oh yeah on thing I forgot, they are pretty expensive things to buy unless you are really keen to use it. Since my major effort rowing I then bought the machine after a year away from it and I've not used my machine nearly enough, probably count it on hands and feet. :cry

I've had a concept2 for longer than I can remember with the pm2 monitor and it does, and always has, more than I could need. Amazing bit of kit.

I got a quote a few years back to trade it in and was being offered very nearly what I had paid for it 10+ years earlier. I can't say that about any of my golf kit!

They all do the job although I prefer a d or e due to the wider handle in them and also from pm3 on wards the numbers are bigger so easier to read when you think you are going to collapse.

Third visit to the gym and am beginning to see the attraction of rowing....a nice low impact workout that you can do sat on your arse.  :chuckle:

Obviously still working out in the Anglian Combination League rather than the Premier League but I knocked 45 seconds off my previous attempt to row 500m.
