New Rules of Golf published
« on: Mar 12, 2018, 12:49:53 »
The R and A website now has the new rules

A few changes from the proposals seem sensible to me:
Drop from knee height
Measure using longest club excluding putter
No penalty for double hit
Local rule available to enable stroke and distance penalty to apply from
where ball lost or OOB to replace going back to where last played from
:ping: G400 SFT 12 deg driver
:ping: G400 SFT  5 wood

There's a lot of sense in the changes. Excluding putters from being used for relief measurement for one.

Red hazard drops will be interesting, also dropping outside bunkers. That's going to help certain people a lot.

Not so sure about moving things in hazards and practice swings.

Really don't see the point in knee height drops?

Only when the second one is not intended. You have to count all the blows when you beat the ball to death in frustration.  ;)

If the OOB is via a local rule I wonder what they'll do on the 14th at RSG? It has has OOB hard down the entire right hand side and the fairway is blind from the tee, so it's not unusual to see a player put 2 or 3 shots OOB off the tee. Or keep it in play from the tee, then put either the 2nd or 3rd OOB.

If they implement the local rule it will make it a lot easier. It would also be hard to determine where to drop for sliced tee shots because of the blindness.

Don't get the knee high drop thing. What's wrong with the current method? (I'll admit I haven't read anything about it but wondering if they've explained any of the reasons)

Also no penalty for double hit? ??? Don't get that one either. Again 3pw aside is it such a big issue?

Season 1 24.1 -> 16.8 1 medal
Season 2 16.8 -> 14.1 2 medals
Season 3 14.1 -> 12.5 Lanark Open
Season 4 12.5-12.6-12.3 2nd Bruce Sharp Trophy
Season 5 12.3-12.5 'Wasted Year'

My take is that the double hit rule is more a reaction to these super HD slow mo's in pro golf which apparently can show a double hit, even though by feel and by eye you wouldn't know you had done it.
