Speed Sticks
« on: Nov 25, 2018, 08:44:38 »
Has anyone used Speed Sticks?  They seem pretty expensive for what they are but they also seem to be getting used by a lot of professionals now to help build swing speed.  Before buying them for my Christmas I thought I'd see if anyone here has tried them and had any success.  I guess like all training it takes time / commitment to get the benefits.

I've had them for about a year.

I can't give you a precise outcome of increasing swingspeed from x to y as in truth I've simply not committed to using them properly. You need to set aside a 30 minute slot 3 times a week. The actual workout is about 15 minutes BUT as I found, the absolute key is to warm up properly or you are just asking for injuries. I tried to cut the warm up to 5 mins early in the program and injured a shoulder which in turn put me off using them when I had some key events coming up.

I 100% believe that the program will deliver results and am planning on re-applying myself this winter, recognising of course that whilst it's off season, it will also be cold and that brings issues in relation to commitment and muscle pulls. The sticks are expensive but well made so no issues with weights flying off dangerously.

You've probably seen the long thread on WRX which is very positive so if you feel you can commit then I would say go for it.

Nobody on WRX needs more speed.  They all swing at 130+ already don't they?!?!

Thanks for the review.  I may just stick with the gym work as finding time to use this for 30 mins per session, 3 times per week might just be a bit too much.  It certainly looks like an interesting system though - how much height do you need?  Can it be used indoors?

I would say outdoors only unless you have exceptional ceiling height. From memory they are about 40 inches long so unless you can comfortably swing a hybrid / 2 iron indoors then zero chance with these and of course they aren't designed to touch the ground so will play a little longer.

I’ve got them but not used them much

Agree with need to warm up.  I’ve also just bought a radar as I really think that will encourage me to use them

Got them and used them sporadically and I think they do work..but hard to say as you have to do gym stuff as well...hard thing is to swing left handed to balance out efforts
