Masters 2021
« on: Apr 09, 2021, 08:31:48 »
Thought I'd start a thread in case there is anyone on here who is watching the golf.

Rose was in the zone coming home last night, from when he got that, rather fortuitous, bounce on 8 he was amazing. Irons were all over the flags and his putter was incredible. His swing just looks amazing, so good right now. Heard he has gone back to Sean Foley - never understood why he left after the way he tuned his swing previously. Was really surprised to see he was using a TM M1(v2) driver - doesn't say much for the current crop of drivers out there. Shows that the guys might not change drivers so frequently if they weren't contracted to do so.

Lowery was good to watch playing alongside Justin R, his shortgame is great to watch - couldn't believe he chipped back into the water on 15. :scared:
Hatton battled back well, and had a good finish.
Nice HOI from Tommy on 16 - 2 in 2 tournaments :calm:

Speith did well, but the driver is still a problem, don't think I've ever seen anyone so far into the trees on 13...
PReed did well not managing to look like he was cheating at any point. :cowboy:

I love a firm and fast course but the greens just look brutal, don't think I have ever seen them quite so firm and brown on day 1. Surely if it doesn't rain they are going to have to water them to keep them playable for the weekend.

Certainly was great last 10 holes from Rose.

Several others played well but got bad breaks and some of the greens were like glass.

Lowry wasn’t the only one to chip into the pond at 16 from behind the green - I think most if us faced with that shot might well have done likewise!

Wonder what the odds are if hitting your own father with a golf shot there? - McIlroy managed it from the left of one hole needing a draw to reach the green and aimed at his dad on the right side near the green but failed to get any draw!

I though Westwood was disappointing after his recent form but yet again Langer was better than n many half his age!

I’m not sure a four shot lead after one round is enough- but I’d certainly rather hype 4 under rather than 4 over.

Hope it’s not a Matsuyama yawn fest tonight and that Justin Rose can get his game back into shape. His distance control was abysmal yesterday  :picard:

Need to see lots of birdies/eagles and lots of players in contention!
I love the sand belt but it's not good for keeping up trousers in the rain...

That’s about when I gave up - what a mistake as it sounds as if it was a close run thing with Xander messing up 16 and Hideki almost throwing it away.
Though Zalatoris played exceptionally well for his first masters and he could go far

I was in bed by then. If I had of stayed up I’d have probably been asleep by then. Not the most interesting masters

Hideki worried me on 13, then 15 but as soon as the X-man rinsed it on 16 I gave up. Final score much closer than it really was.

Hideki won it with that fantastic bogey free round on Saturday. Not sure we can blame him for the rest of field not turning up.

The second shot he played on 11 to set up the birdie on the Saturday was magnificent  . What made it even better was that it was his first shot after the 1+hr rain delay.
